Biology 40S

Description
This interactive course consists of three major units, particularly suited for students seeking further medically-related post-secondary studies. Ongoing public-health issues in this course include:

  • Cell structure and theory, cancer and other major diseases
  • Human body systems, genetics, biodiversity and organism classification

Course content also focuses on current health concerns and practical life applications through a variety of research projects, in-class labs and class discussion.

It will also include a basic understanding of the mole concept, stoichiometry and limiting reactants, solutions, gases and organic chemistry.

Description
This is a modified Physics 30S course with an emphasis on application of mathematics in real physics situations. It will help prepare students for Applied Math 40S as well as Physics 40S. The math component will include algebra, equation solving, some graphing, vectors and trigonometry. The physics component will include motion (velocity and acceleration) or mechanics as well as gravity and friction.

Description
This course requires math skills in algebra and trigonometry, and some knowledge of Newtonian laws of motion.

The main focus of the course will be:

  • Fields
  • Electricity
  • Magnetism
  • Electromagnetic induction
  • Projectile and circular motion
  • Momentum and impulse
  • Electrical circuits, energy and power

Physics is useful and required in career choices such as engineering and X-ray technology, as well as medical and support careers.
