Essential Mathematics 20S

Description
The new 20S Essential Math focuses on essential math skills for consumer, business, workplace and trades mathematics.

Topics include:

  • Unit pricing and currency exchange
  • Earning an income
  • Linear and area measurements
  • Temperature, mass, and volume measurements
  • Angles and parallel lines
  • Similar figures
  • Trigonometry

Lessons and assessments will include:

  • Mental math
  • Problem solving
  • Daily practice and assignments
  • Individual and group projects
  • Quizzes and tests

Core Mathematics 31G

Description
This course will review, in a problem-solving context, the basic concepts of whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages in the first 6 weeks. Students will then study algebra, geometry and trigonometry up to an intermediate level, concluding with graphing basic functions, spreadsheets and trigonometry. This course is highly recommended for anyone planning to take Applied 40S.

Applied Mathematics 40S

Pre-Calculus Mathematics 30S

This course is an excellent preparation for Pre-Calculus 40S. It consists of the following topics:

Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S

Days offered: Monday and Wednesday
Time: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Prerequisite required: Pre-Calculus 30S (a strong mark is highly recommended) or Applied Math 40S

Description
This one-credit course is a continuation of Pre-Calculus 30S. It is a prerequisite for many studies at the post-secondary level. It consists of such topics as:

  • Polynomial, radical and rational functions
  • Transformations and operations
  • Exponential and logarithmic functions
  • Trigonometry I
    • Degrees, radians, unit circle
    • Trigonometric functions
  • Trigonometry II
    • Equations
    • Identities
  • Permutations, combinations and the binomial theorem
